06.17.2023: Wroxeter, England

After our travels to Bath, we stayed at cabins near the Welsh border. On our second day, we visited the Roman city Viroconium Cornoviorum, located in Wroxeter. The town was the fourth largest in Britannia. At the site, another bathing complex has been excavated. All of the photos from the city show what remains of the complex. You can see the pilae stacks from the hypocausts and the complex’s walls. They have also built a replica of what they believed a wealthy Roman house would have looked like in Britannia, only using materials which would have been available to them. The house consisted of a triclinium, a bath-suite, and replica Roman furniture.

We then headed to Shrewsbury, where we walked around and enjoyed lunch. We went to England a few weeks after King Charles’s coronation, so decorations were still everywhere. There is also a beautiful castle in Shrewsbury, with the original castle built in 1067.

Our cabins were located around beautiful hills near the Welsh border. The scenery looked straight out of a picture book; it was gorgeous. When we were outside, horses would frequently come up to the fence and hang around us.
