06.23.2023: The British Museum and Covent Garden

On our first full day in London, we started at the British Museum, which is well known for the many things stolen within it. There are many classical artifacts within it that was very cool to see. They have a ton of Roman coins, a two thousand-year-old flower necklace, and various sculptures. My favorite thing to see, but at the same time very sad, were the marbles and parts of the frieze from the Parthenon and surrounding buildings on the Acropolis in Athens. While they are gorgeous to look at, it is really unfortunate that they were stolen and are now kept at a museum in a different country. I was fortunate enough to visit Greece a few years ago and go inside the Acropolis Museum. Unfortunately, they are missing a lot of various artifacts due to them being stolen by Lord Elgin in the 1800s. Most of the frieze from the Parthenon is actually at the British Museum. The marbles are protected by law in England so the British Museum has no intentions of ever returning them back to where they originated.

After the British Museum, we headed to Covent Garden for lunch, where we got Shake Shack. Believe me, I know it’s not the best choice for being in a foreign country. We walked around and looked at the various shops in the area and ended up along the River Thames. I got a great view of the Tower Bridge.

After a day of walking around a museum and London, we stopped for dinner at Wagamama. It was a delicious meal to end the day!
